MP overthrown by Malcolm Turnbull to run again
Nominations for Liberal preselection in Malcolm Turnbull’s seat of Wentworth have closed.
The man Mr Turnbull overthrew 14 years ago, Peter King, has decided to nominate to run again.
The former Liberal party president tells Alan Jones, his reason for throwing his hat in the ring can be summed up by a phone call he had with his mother, yesterday.
“She rang me yesterday and she said, ‘Oh what’s the point of throwing yourself back into politics at the moment with trust never at such a low ebb’. And I said mum, ‘It’s my melancholy duty to put national interest first before ego’.”
City of Sydney Councillor Christine Forster has pulled out of the race to become the Liberal candidate.
