Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy says his victory has finally sunk in, three days after the great race was run.

Cross Counter won this year’s rain-drenched Cup, shocking spectators in a close finish.

It’s the first Melbourne Cup win for international horse racing giant Godolphin, who has been chasing the title for over a decade.

Tuesday also saw jockey Kerrin McEvoy become the first rider to complete the Everest-Cup double.

He tells Chris Smith the win has finally sunk in.

“It’s been a bit of a busy week,” he says.

“Tuesday was a very special day and a day I’ll never forget.”

McEvoy also reveals he thinks Cross Counter will compete in next year’s Cup.

“He’s only a young horse.

“He might come back here and try to regain his title.”
