You now have longer to opt-out of My Health Record
The government has delayed the opt-out deadline for the My Health Record system due to political pressure.
Australians will now have until January 31 to leave the system.
Over 1.4 million people so far have decided they don’t want their health information stored in the online database.
Today the Senate voted to push back the My Health rollout.
Member for Wentworth Dr Kerryn Phelps expressed concerns about the database from the start.
She tells Ross Greenwood the proposed changes are “welcome” but there’s still a way to go.
“Medical practise cannot occur without confidentiality,” she says.
“We needed to see proper penalties for misuse of data, we needed to see strengthening of provisions.
“We needed to make sure employers were prohibited from requesting information… and also data being released to private health insureres.”
