Former prime minister Tony Abbott says a bounce in the polls shows the election is far from over.

The latest Fairfax-Ipsos opinion poll has the government just two points behind Labor in the race for The Lodge.

It follows voter concern over the Opposition’s border security changes, its retiree and housing policies.

Mr Abbott admits the Coalition hasn’t played a good political game but tells Ray Hadley they can still win the May election.

“Governments that have conviction and character can come back, there’s no doubt about that.

“What I think we’ve seen from the Prime Minister and his senior ministers over the last few months is conviction and character.

“And I think we’ll see more of that over the next couple of months.”
