Queensland police will have the power to conduct random searches using metal detection wands in safe night precincts after legislation passed state parliament.

Jack’s Law, named after 17-year-old Jack Beasley, who was stabbed to death on the Gold Coast while on a night out with friends in 2019, will come into effect on Sunday.

Jack’s father, Brett Beasley, told Neil Breen the update is fulfilling a promise he made to his son.

“I don’t know how I keep fighting, either, Breenie, I really don’t, but we’ve got to, mate; we’ve got to just keep moving forward.

“I made a bit of a deal with him in the early stages – I’m going to get upset – but, you know, that I’d keep his name going, so that’s what I’m doing.
