A critical care paramedic who has been with the Queensland Ambulance Service for more than three decades has been honoured with an Ambulance Service Medal (ASM).

Metro North clinical support officer Crad Smith is celebrating 36 years with the QAS, after beginning his career with the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade in 1985.

“Over my time I have seen a lot of change, a lot of good things happen it’s been a journey and a half,” he told Sofie Formica.

In 2011 when Cyclone Yasi hit, he was tasked with coordinating the evacuation of 250 patients from Cairns Hospital.
