‘A real carnival atmosphere’ in London as Queen’s Platinum Jubilee begins
Celebrations marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have begun in London, with 10 million people expected to turn out for the party across Britain.
The Queen appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with members of the royal family in her second appearance of the day for Trooping the Colour.
Thursday marks the 69th anniversary of the coronation of Elizabeth, who became Queen on the death of her father, George VI, in 1952.
Senior Reporter for The i Paper, Benjamin Butterworth told Neil Breen “there’s a real carnival atmosphere” across London today.
“Just about every piece of clothing imaginable you saw with the red, white and blue emblazoned on it,” he said.
“For people who are in London at the moment, there’s a lot they can turn out and watch.”
