‘A star is born’: The 17yo who brought Ray and Troy Cassar-Daley to tears
“A star is born!”
They were the first words from Ray Hadley’s mouth after hearing 17-year-old Jem Cassar-Daley perform in the studio.
The daughter of country music legend Troy Cassar-Daley is on the road touring with her famous father.
In her first live studio performance, Jem sang a tune she wrote with another country music star, Catherine Britt.
When she finished Ray and Troy were both in tears and in awe.
“A star is born,” says Ray.
“Your father knows I don’t say things lightly. You are brilliant. That was a five star performance.
“You’ve made your dad cry. I’m a bit like your dad, I was choking up a there.”

The pair then sang a duet together and had a chat about his latest success at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Troy picked up his 37th Golden Guitar for Heritage Song of the Year with Shadows On The Hill, leaving him one behind Slim Dusty’s record of 38 Golden Guitars.
Troy reveals to Ray Hadley that he won’t be entering next year, as a tribute to the late, great Slim.
“I’m not going to nominate for a while. I’m just going to stop.
“I don’t want to chance breaking that record. Nah, I’m not doing that.
“I’m going to do a Mark Taylor.”
