Abbott warns Treasurer about one major exclusion from tomorrow’s budget
The former Prime Minister says the federal government needs to outline significant savings measures, to pay for its spending.
Tomorrow’s budget will contain new money for infrastructure projects, health and aged care.
It will also contain modest personal income tax cuts.
But Tony Abbott tells Ray Hadley, debt and deficit haven’t been reigned-in since his 2014 budget.
“Since then there hasn’t been an enormous appetite for reigning in spending and that’s the big challenge that we face.
“It was good that the treasurer said we’re going to try and limit tax to 23.9% of GDP.
“The problem is that if you look forward it seems spending is stuck at 25% plus of GDP.”
