Actors, politicians among outstanding Aussies to be honoured by the Queen
Nearly 1000 extraordinary Australians have been recognised on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List this year.
The list, which honours those who have made a significant contribution to the community, includes people from all walks of life, from famous actors to journalists.
Actor Hugh Jackman, former politician Kevin Rudd, and ABC chairwoman Ita Buttrose will receive the highest honour: the Companion of the Order of Australia.
Female representation on the list has also reached an all-time high of 40 per cent.
Former Channel 9 sports reporter Ken Sutcliffe has been included on the list for outstanding services to broadcast media.
He tells Chris Smith he just considers himself lucky to have worked in an industry he loves so much.
“I can say that it was a joy, and not many people get to say that about their working career.
“I think I initially had ambition way beyond ability. Somehow along the line, some things fell into place.
“But honestly Chris at the end of the day you don’t do it without family.
“My wife, she is 99.9 per cent of this award, in my opinion. I could not have had my career without her.”

Actress Sigrid Thornton has also been recognised for distinguished services to the performing arts and professional arts organisations.
She tells Chris acting was her calling and she couldn’t have done anything else with her life.
“Nothing that one wants badly enough comes without a fair bit of hard work.
“It’s definitely had its ups and downs but I have to say, across the board, it’s given me a wonderful life.”
