The Federal Police have arrested two men after 233kg of cocaine was found concealed inside aluminium bars shipped in from Mexico.

A 49-year-old Auburn man and a 61-year-old UK citizen were arrested over the alleged shipment from a Mexican cartel containing 1890 aluminium ingots, with a street value of over $104 million.

The cocaine had been wrapped in clear film, encased with metal then sealed again inside the aluminium ingots.

Each of the men have been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of cocaine, with the possibility of life in jail.

The AFP has confirmed the quantity of cocaine seized could have affected more than 1.1 million drug users.

The successful investigation involved the AFP, NSW Police, the NSW Crime Commission and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations.
