It has emerged Aged Care and Sports Minister Richard Colbeck accepted an invite to attend the cricket in Hobart, instead of fronting a COVID-19 committee hearing into the government’s pandemic response.

Neil Breen said people were “blowing up about it”.

“He shouldn’t have gone to the cricket, Richard Colbeck, there are far more important things to be doing at the moment particularly if you are the Aged Care Minister,” he said.

Yesterday, 4BC Breakfast spoke to numerous callers and the United Workers Union about the staff shortages in the sector.

Neil said it was at crisis point.

“It’s a national crisis and I don’t think it’s had the attention it’s deserved, and how could it, when the Minister himself is at cricket?”
