The United Workers Union wants an urgent plan to deal with aged care pressures brought on by the Omicron wave.

It claims the virus has been reported in half of all facilities nationwide.

Aged Care Director Carolyn Smith told Neil Breen the case numbers are taking a huge toll on staff.

“We’re expecting that most facilities will end up with COVID in them,” she said. “It’s just so infectious.

“I think one of the really worrying things is 85 per cent of [workers] describe themselves as stressed, exhausted and confused about what they should be doing.”
