Christopher Pyne                  June 28 2017

Well, opinion writer, Janet Albrechtsen, gets it right in today’s Australian

Commenting on the Christopher Pyne debacle this week, she says there is nothing more certain to trigger a voter backlash than the poisonous explosions Pyne has set off within the Coalition

She says, rightly, that what irks voters even more than venomous party politics is venomous politics between factions of the same party

Yet, she says, there was the Machiavellian Pyne this week laying it all bare

Pyne, she says, is a factional player through and through

She says, as far as Pyne is concerned, winning means winning internal party disputes

She says, fronting a partisan audience of so-called moderate Liberals equally obsessed with internal bickering, Pyne crowed about his faction’s fortunes and pointed to very senior Ministers, including himself, Marise Payne and George Brandis, as members of a winning circle

Very senior Ministers?

Pyne wasn’t appointed to any senior role in the Howard Government, Maris Payne is a case of “Marise who?” and George Brandis has long been blamed for the Government’s botched attempt to reform section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act

Janet Albrechtsen says Christopher Pyne ought to be asking whether same sex marriage is a winning policy for the Coalition at the next election

Instead all he is concerned with is internal division which will inevitably lead to certain electoral defeat

Janet Albrechtsen asks, Mr Pyne, do tell us more about your so-called winner’s circle
