Albanese and Xi hold crucial talks, end six-year diplomatic cold shoulder
The Prime Minister and Chinese President Xi Jinping have met on the sidelines of the G20 for a half-hour conversation.
The pair discussed a number of issues, including trade sanctions, regional tensions and the detainment of two Australians in a Beijing prison.
Anthony Albanese is the first Australian leader in six years to hold talks with Xi Jinping.
“The fact that they are now on speaking terms is the most significant thing to come out of this,” 9News federal politics reporter Fiona Willan told 4BC Breakfast.
“Anthony Albanese described it as a warm conversation, he said it was very positive.”
