AMAQ concerned over ‘decimated’ workforce amid COVID wave
Queensland is in the midst of a third COVID-19 wave and concerns are growing for the mounting pressure on the health system.
In the past 24 hours, 5,878 cases were recorded and another 4 people died, which takes the state’s death toll up to 1285.
Around 2016 Queensland Health staff are off work in isolation.
Authorities are saying the current COVID wave looks like it’s about to get much worse, up until at least the end of the month.
President of the Australian Medical Association of Queensland, Dr Maria Boulton, said they are concerned about health workers, as the industry is being “decimated” with staff off sick.
She said they support a booster jab for any healthcare worker who wants one.
“We feel our workforce needs to be shored up, and we need to protect our workforce as well,” she told Peter Fegan on 4BC Drive.
She said only 50 per cent of people aged over the 65 have had the fourth dose.
“The other thing we know is that masks do make a difference.”
She encouraged anyone to wear a mask in places like supermarkets, and get a booster jab.
