Anthony Albanese appears to accuse Coalition of racist attacks
The Opposition Leader has “brought race into the equation” in a “desperate” eleventh hour bid for Fowler, Neil Breen says.
Anthony Albanese appeared at the Marconi Club in the embattled western Sydney seat of Fowler last night, claiming Coalition attacks are targeting his Italian heritage.
“Those people of my age and older in this room will know that at school people made fun of your name,” he said.
“My opponents think it’s still okay to make fun of someone’s name in their advertising … I know that many in the Italian-Australian community have made their own judgments about what that says about them.”
The comments are an apparent reference to the Coalition’s tagline, ‘It won’t be easy under Albanese’.
“I can’t think of one Australian who even thinks of him as being Italian,” Neil said. “No one cares in Australia.
“They’ve used a rhyme, right, ‘It won’t be easy under Albanese’, big deal!
“I’ve never heard more garbage in my life.”
