Anthony Albanese has walked away from a leaders’ debate better off after successfully tackling some sticky questions, Neil Breen says.

An audience member who has a four-year-old disabled son asked Scott Morrison and the Opposition Leader about the future of NDIS funding.

“Anthony Albanese had his best moment [then],” Neil said.

“The Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese used it to take the chance and say that Labor was the party that through recent history, were the ones that brought about big reforms in Australia.

“Whether you like all those big reforms or not, when you’re talking to swinging voters, I thought it was a good moment for him.”

4BC federal politics editor Michael Pachi told Neil there was a strong focus on social issues at the debate last night.

“I would argue, Breenie, when push comes to shove, most people think … ‘Why not fund the NDIS properly or why not make sure that aged care residents are looked after, why not make sure there’s more money for the health system?’

“Even though some of these issues are state-based issues as well, the bottom line is I think that people now expect those sorts of social issues like health, education, aged care to actually be funded properly and looked after.”
