Argentina will play in its first World Cup final since 2014 after beating Croatia this morning, after another stunning performance by Lionel Messi.

The 35-year-old has confirmed his last ever international football match will be the World Cup Final, which kicks off at 1am on Monday.

In Brisbane this morning, Argentinians packed out various locations around the city to see their team win.

The adrenaline hasn’t worn off yet for Gustavo Alvarez, an Argentinian who lives in Brisbane.

“It has been exciting all day, messages from family back home in Argentina messages from co-workers,” he said.

“It’s a little bit bittersweet, we all now Messi is going to retire, just to hear it from him that he is not going to play World Cups anymore, it’s a bit sad for me, I am a huge, huge fan.”

He’s also proud of how the Socceroos performed.
