Aussie firefighter goes the extra 26 miles for the children he rescues
An Aussie firefighter stuck in hotel quarantine after helping out on the Canadian fire front is going the extra 26.2 miles for burn victims.
FRNSW firefighter Russell Turner travelled to Canada in July, as the northern nation battled catastrophic wildfires and is now halfway through his mandatory 14-day homecoming quarantine.
He told Deborah Knight to pass the time and keep fit, he’s running a marathon’s worth of laps around the room to raise money for the burns unit at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
“I’m going to run about 3500 laps of the room on Friday, which is also my birthday.
“I’ve got a little system going – I’ve got a playlist, and every couple of songs I’ll change direction, which stops me getting dizzy.”

It’s an achievable goal for Mr Turner, who undertook the same challenge last year in hotel quarantine.
