Australian cinematographer on the cusp of making Oscars history
An Australian cinematographer will make history at the Academy Awards today if she walks away with an Oscar.
Ari Wegner is a frontrunner to win an award for Best Cinematography for her work on The Power of the Dog.
If she does, she’ll be making headlines on home soil not just for flying the flag for Australian cinema but for being the first woman ever to take the gong.
“She’s up against her very dear friend Greig Fraser, who was the cinematographer on that epic sci-fi Dune,” Nine News US Correspondent Alison Piotrowski told Neil Breen.
“It’s a really good chance one of them is going to take it out.
“She’d be busting open the biggest boys club in the world if she wins this one.”
