Australian Olympic Committee President says QLD not yet ready for 2032 bid
The Australian Olympic Committee President says Queensland’s bid for the 2032 Olympics relies on an improvement to the transport infrastructure.
The Federal government has pledged up to $10 million for a partnership between all levels of government to support Brisbane as the host city.
AOC President John Coates says Queensland has the best weather for the Olympic Games, which must be held in July or August.
Mr Coates tells John Stanley southeast Queensland has venues which could host the Olympics but needs a more comprehensive transport system.
“The transport is actually required… the Queensland government shows if you don’t fix the transport by 2030 it will be a carpark between Gold Coast and Brisbane.
“It’s very much… dependant on that.
“You have to have an undertaking and guarantee from the national government.”
