Brisbanites are being urged to remain cautious in the aftermath of Cyclone Alfred as scammers attempt to take advantage of unsuspecting victims.

AUCyber chief and corporate affairs officer, Rafe Berding, revealed Australians are major targets due to the country’s wealth.

“It’s preying on the fact that they’re impersonating insurers, so they’re sending out fake emails, fake text messages,” he told Peter Psaltis, filling in for Sofie Formica.

“They’re trying to impersonate insurers to make you give them your details as well … it’s [also] all about fake donations,” he added.
