The Gold Coast is mopping up the mess of a downpour, with the region copping 300mm of rain in just a few hours, as authorities warn there’s more of the wild weather to come for the south-east.

The wild weather resulted in two swift water rescues, evacuations from a camp site at Helensvale and a raft of flood warnings.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services acting inspector Marcus Barrett said crews were very busy overnight.

“We had two water rescues last night, one at 2am at … Helensvale, a gentleman caught in flood water,” he told Peter Fegan filling in on Brisbane Live.

He said they are preparing for more of a volatile storm season, advising people to be aware of the closed and flooded roads, as well as weather warnings.

“Adjust your plans a little bit, stay home perhaps, we knew it was coming but we don’t always know how fast and heavy it is going to be.”
