Autistic boy hit and killed by train after running away from care facility
The search for a missing autistic child in Sydney’s south has ended in tragedy with the boy found dead at Oatley train station.
A large-scale search began at about 7.15pm after the 11-year-old ran away from a carer’s facility on Oatley Parade.
There were significant fears for the boy’s welfare as he was severely disabled and non-verbal.
The Dog Unit, Polair, officers and members of the public searched for the boy for more than two hours before everybody’s worst fears were realised.
At around 9.30pm, the boy was found deceased at Oatley railway station after being hit by a train.
The station is now operating as normal with flowers placed near where the boy was found.
