Baby in intensive care after swallowing button battery
There are calls to take button batteries off the market after a Mackay toddler suffered severe internal burns.
The one-year-old girl was put into an induced coma after swallowing a button battery, which has since been removed in surgery.
She remains in intensive care at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Paediatrician Faye Jordan told Sofie Formica previous attempts to reduce their harm clearly aren’t working.
“We’ve had our change in legislation, we’ve had our change in packaging, we’ve had our change in the product description and yet, we’re still seeing 20 kids a week nationally presenting with button exposure.”
