‘Bad fashion, fantastic music’: Marcia Hines on her love of all things disco
Bust out the sequins and prepare to boogie because Marcia Hines is back with the national Velvet Rewired tour.
The discotheque tour, which was initially derailed by COVID-19, will kick off at the Wynnum Fringe festival before heading interstate.
Hines told Laurel, Gary & Mark disco represents a “joyous” time in history.
“I think of discos as a really happy time and the costumes, and the circus acts and all the things that go with it make Velvet Rewired fantastic,” she said.
“The disco era came out of a very sad time in the Vietnam War and all of a sudden, disco came, there was bad fashion, fantastic music, really bad shoes…
“If you didn’t grow up during that time, you even hear it in the movies you’re watching these days.”
