There’s been a shake-up on the list of favourites for this Sunday’s Bathurst 1000 as forecasts predict up to 40 millimetres of rainfall on race day.

Press PLAY below to hear whose chances have improved with the weather

The conditions are set to throw a few extra names into contention as drivers throw last year’s lessons out the door and grapple with new wet weather strategies and set-ups.

Former V8 Supercar driver and racing commentator Mark Skaife told Laurel, Gary & Mark while the “top guys are all good in the rain”, there will be others with an advantage on the track.

“All the top guys are all good in the rain,” he said. “The top five or six that were always going to be the hard people to beat, they’re still going to be hard to beat.

“It does bring in a few of those wet weather specialists: Craig Lowndes, he’s very good, he’s back for the weekend; David Reynolds; Will Brown; Andre Heimgartner, the young New Zealander for Brad Jones Racing.

“There’s probably five or six extras that’ll be in contention over the weekend but it’s going to be wild.”
