Billy Slater named coach to help Maroons ‘inspire our state’
Billy Slater has officially been named as the new coach of the Maroons.
He tells Peter Psaltis the Queensland team is “what I’ve known my whole life”.
“I grew up in far north Queensland and this team inspired me as a young boy.
“Then I got the chance to become one of those players, and now, I get the opportunity to help the current and future Maroons inspire our state.”

He represented his Queensland in 31 State of Origin matches before his 2018 retirement.
The Queensland legend comes in for Paul Green who left the role with an eye on a future job at an NRL club.
Cameron Smith is expected to be named as one of his assistants at a later date.
