The Adani coal mine has officially been given the green light by the Queensland Government.

The construction of the Carmichael coal mine has been continuously blocked by the state Labor government, but QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk softened her stance after Labor’s shock defeat in the federal election.

She admitted that Labor let people down by continuously delaying the construction of the mine.

Now, the final hurdle in the approvals process has been given the go-ahead.

The mine’s groundwater management plan has officially been approved by the environment department.

Macquarie National News reporter Anthony Laughton tells Chris Smith the decision has finally come through after nine years of waiting.

“Ground can now be broken in Central Queensland by the Indian mining giant. They can, finally, after almost a decade, forge ahead with their Carmichael coal mine.”

QLD Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington tells Chris the decision was a long time coming.

“Very pleased to see that the Palaszczuk government has finally come to their senses.

“What today’s announcement is, is a real win for the people power of Queensland.”

National member for Capricornia Michelle Landry tells Chris this decision will mean lots of extra jobs.

“This is going to be a job bonanza up here in central Queensland, so I want to encourage people in those cold states down south, move your family up here.

“We’re going to need lots of workers and we want families to actually move to our regions.”
