The Opposition Leader has “backflipped” on a decision to ditch his travelling press pack just two days out from the federal election. 

Journalists who had been travelling with Anthony Albanese on the campaign trail were this morning informed he would campaign in Brisbane alone.

4BC National Political Editor Michael Pachi told Neil Breen the press pack was told they would return to Canberra after the would-be prime minister finishes up in Sydney this morning.

“We won’t be with the leader in Brisbane when he’s there,” Pachi said. “They’ve asked for local crews to meet up with him in Brisbane, which is strange – I’ve never heard anything like that.

“If you’re with the travelling press pack during an election campaign, you’re there to follow the leader, not partially follow the leader.”

Less than one hour later, Pachi has been informed the press pack will go to Brisbane with Mr Albanese after all.

He told Ray Hadley the travelling media will head to Brisbane from Sydney today.

“I thought it was madness,” Ray said. “I thought, well, he’s gone stark raving mad.

“Someone’s tugged his coat and said ‘Not a good look, mate, they need to go with you’.”
