Blue Mountains Council to be suspended over asbestos scandal

Following an extensive campaign by Ray Hadley, the NSW Government has issued a notice of intention to suspend the Blue Mountains City Council.

The council has been hit with months of allegations of asbestos cover-ups including at two pre-schools.

Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton has now given the council seven days to respond to the notice before an interim administrator is appointed.

“I am concerned the council is not functioning effectively following the volume and scope of recent regulatory notices issued by SafeWork NSW and the Environment Protection Authority, including SafeWork’s decision to launch a full investigation into the council’s management of asbestos.”

Ray speaks with Blue Mountains Greens Councillor Kerry Brown following a council meeting last night.

“I think the councillors are finally beginning to understand we are the governing body… ultimately the buck stops with us.”

Ray also plays audio of Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill telling the ABC this is all a political stunt.
