Breenie questions timing of Coalition’s teachers’ test pledge
Neil Breen is questioning why the Employment Minister has waited until the eve of an election to make a new promise.
Stuart Robert says he will make a literacy and numeracy test mandatory for entry into teaching degrees if the Coalition is re-elected.
Under existing arrangements, teaching students only have to pass the test at some point during their degree.
“I’ll point out to Stuart Robert while he’s the acting Education Minister, his government’s been in power since 2013,” Breenie said.
“That’s nine years. Nine years! Why hasn’t the government already done it? Why is this only coming up now at the eleventh hour?
“Aren’t you talking into an echo chamber? You could’ve done it.”
