Breenie weighs in on nixed plan for three NRL grand finals in Qld
The NRL “should have gone for” a Queensland government proposal to alternate the host city for the grand final, Neil Breen says.
Under the pitch by Queensland, the NRL grand final would have been on a four-year rotation to bring the event to Brisbane, while still ensuring most deciders remained in Sydney.
It would have allowed Brisbane to host the 2024, 2028 and 2031 events, serving as a test for city infrastructure ahead of the 2032 Games.
“I didn’t think it was too bad a pitch but the NRL rejected it,” Neil Breen said. “I reckon a four-year rotation of the grand final … was a good idea.”
