The artist behind a $14 million piece commissioned by the National Gallery of Australia will build a sculpture for the Queen’s Wharf development.

Star Entertainment Group have chosen Brisbane artist Lindy Lee to create an eight-metre-high, eight-tonne bronze artwork that will sit at the George Street entrance to the precinct.

The Group’s Chief Casino Officer Geoff Hogg has told Neil Breen, it won’t come cheap.

“It cost seven figures,” he said. “It’s large in scale, it’s designed to look fantastic day and night.

“There’s actually thousands of holes punctured in the structure so at nighttime, it looks like silver and gold stars.”

Mr Hogg told Neil Breen the city will have to wait until next year to experience the precinct.

“They informed us mid- to late-last year that they’re running anywhere from five to six months behind.

“Originally we were hoping to open in December ’22, it’s now the middle of ’23.

“For us, what’s really important over the next three months is the impact of rain.

“We get the two key wings, the bridges that go up onto the sky deck installed around May this year and about that time, we’re no longer dependant on the rain and impacted by weather and we’ll get some real certainty on the opening.”
