Brisbane reopens to international tourists after more than 700 days
For the first time in almost two years, international tourists are being welcomed back into Brisbane.
Australia’s border has now reopened to fully vaccinated overseas travellers.
More than 1500 people are expected to stream through Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal today.
Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan De Graaff told Neil Breen seven international flights will be landing today.
“Most of those flights are coming from Singapore; three are from Singapore but we also have Auckland, Doha and Dubai.
“These are all airlines that are connecting passengers from all over the world, predominately Europe and Asia, into Queensland.”

Today reporter Jess Millward told Neil Breen it’s a subdued welcome for tourists landing in Brisbane today.
“It’s going to be a really, really slow recovery here for those international arrivals,” she said.
“We’re not getting that Qantas flight to Los Angeles back until next month, we’re not getting Fiji back until next month.
“But I guess you could say today is day one of hopefully a brighter future for our tourism operators, who rely so heavily on these international visitors.”
