Brisbane’s oldest standing theatre given new lease on life in partnership with QPAC

A heritage Woolloongabba theatre is set to open its doors next weekend after a nine-month restoration.

The Princess Theatre, built in 1888, will partner with QPAC to co-present and collaborate, with a focus on theatrical shows.

“The design of that building screams that it wants more theatrical performances,” co-owner Dave Sleswick told Sofie Formica.

“QPAC has a really amazing, long-standing history of presenting works for young people, theatrical shows.”

Dave and his brother Steve purchased the property earlier last year, visualising an “amazing opportunity”.

“[We wanted to] rejuvinate that area of Woolloongabba, but also to not lose another one of our really critical cultural and architectural spaces to an unforeseen future.”
