Budget reply | Opposition claims it can double government’s income tax cuts

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has attacked the government’s latest budget, delivering his reply in parliament.

In Tuesday’s budget, the government promised personal tax cuts over seven years, a plan Labor won’t back in its entirety.

Mr Shorten is vowing to almost double the government’s income tax cuts for low and middle-income earners.

He’s told Parliament, if he wins the next election, Australians would be $928 better off each year.

“In our first budget, we will deliver a bigger, better and fairer tax cut for 10 million working Australians.”

Mr Shorten says Labor would deliver higher personal tax breaks by not supporting the Coalition’s proposed company tax cuts.

He claims Labor’s “budget repair” would come from reforming negative gearing and capital gains.
