Cronulla Sharks star Cameron McInnes says he’s relished playing as a middle forward after admitting he lacks the polish of some of the game’s elite hookers.

The 30-year-old spent the early part of his career playing as a hooker at the Rabbitohs and Dragons, before switching to the lock forward position at the Sharks.

McInnes is part of the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII squad to take on their Papua New Guinea counterparts next Saturday and told The Continuous Call Team he believes his game is better suited to lock.

“I think I can still obviously play hooker,” McInnes said.

“But I think if I’m being completely honest, I probably lack that polish that guys like Damien Cook, Api Koroisau, Harry Grant and Blayke Brailey have.

“I’m pretty fortunate with the way the game has evolved in the last five years really, the speed of it with the six agains, it’s helped guys like myself who are bit smaller, find a place in the middle.”
