Australian golfer Cameron Smith has made six birdies on the back nine to come from behind and win The Open.

Smith went into the final round four off the pace but shot a bogey-free round of 64 to post a score of 20-under-par.

He finished one clear of American Cameron Young and two ahead of Rory McIlroy.

The 28-year-old says he was delighted to put a tough third round behind him.

“I think I was really frustrated yesterday with how the round went,” he said.

“I shrugged it off pretty good, I think, last night; I didn’t dwell on it too much.

“To go out there and really stick my head down and keep making birdies and keep making putts, yeah, was really cool.”
