Can Clive Palmer’s cash splash win a seat? A political analyst says he’s got a good chance

Billionaire Clive Palmer has promised to put on the most expensive political campaign in Australian history as he leads the UAP’s Queensland Senate ticket.

But will throwing money at the election be a winning ticket?

Political analyst Dennis Atkins says it could have quite an impact.

“I think the $83 million he spent at the last election will pale … when put up against what he’s going to spend this time,” he told Sofie Formica.

“I think he’ll go north of $100 million.”

Mr Atkins suggested it’ll be a two-horse race between Pauline Hanson and Mr Palmer for the final seat in the Senate, with the Liberal, Labor and Greens splitting the majority.

“I think Amanda Stoker and Campbell Newman will probably get pushed aside and we’ll have a real ding-dong battle between Pauline Hanson and Clive Palmer.

“Who’s going to win? Well, it’s going to be fascinating.”
