One of the world’s leading melanoma pathologists, Professor Richard Scolyer, who has been diagnosed with incurable brain cancer, is now using his own research to treat the disease.

Professor Richard Scolyer was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer, glioblastoma and made the decision to undergo two open biopsies in the name of tumour research.

He is currently undergoing a combination immunotherapy on his brain which he developed alongside his colleague, Professor Georgina Long.

“People are afraid to do things differently because they’re worried that they’ll cause worse outcomes and neurological problems”, Dr Georgina Long said.

“But, we have to be brave and courageous because you can’t just keep cutting it out. You have to change the biology and this is what Richard’s doing”.
