An unusually cold winter, floods and rain have spelled trouble for pineapple growers, who are urging Australians to buy two pineapples instead of one this summer.

It’s caused mass flowering across the state which means there will now be an excess supply of the fruit over the summer, before a shortfall in the latter months of 2023.

General manager of Tropical Pines Anthony Dobson said there will be an “enormous flush” in the first three months of 2023.

“What we are asking is instead of taking one, please take two because it is going to help our growers get through what is going to be a particularly difficult year,” he told Jason Dasey on Brisbane Live.
