Head of Sports at Channel Nine Tom Malone says the network still considers itself a partner of cricket despite the ball-tampering saga.

Mr Malone tells Ross Greenwood we won’t know the true effects of the scandal until the gates to the SCG open towards the end of the year.

“We consider ourselves still partners in cricket.

“We won’t really know the impact of some of these things in the last few days probably until November until people start turning up at the gate at the SCG or start switching on their television.”

On Channel Nine’s landmark deal to secure the tennis rights from 2020-2024, Mr Malone says it’s an exciting time for the network.

“It’s a five year $300 million deal or $60 million a year.

“We think it’s a great result for tennis. It’s a great result for Nine.”
