Chris Dawson has been jailed for at least 18 years for the murder of his wife Lynette in 1982.

He will serve a maximum of 24 years behind bars, with a judge acknowledging there is a prospect he will die in jail.

The former rugby league player and teacher has been behind bars since he was found guilty in August.

His lawyers say the 74-year-old’s health has deteriorated and he constantly receives death threats.

“Sadly, we don’t know where Lynette’s body is, we don’t know the exact details of what happened to her in those final moments,” Today reporter Gabrielle Boyle told Laurel, Gary & Mark this morning.

“The reality is, Chris Dawson is maintaining his innocence, he says he did nothing wrong and he hasn’t come clean about what exactly took place.”
