Chris Fagan will take a leave of absence from the Brisbane Lions after being linked to explosive racism allegations levelled at Hawthorn

An external report has revealed claims that key figures at the club demanded the separation of young Aboriginal players from their partners.

In one instance, the club is accused of pressuring one couple to terminate a pregnancy for the sake of the player’s career.

Chris Fagan and Alastair Clarkson were named in the damning report.

The Lions have now announced Fagan will take a leave of absence from the club to fully cooperate in an investigation announced by AFL boss Gil McLachlan this morning.

“Chris supports and welcomes the investigation,” a statement from the club said.

“He was not consulted during the Hawthorn sponsored review and looks forward to the opportunity to be heard as part of the AFL investigation.”

Former Brisbane Lions star Jason Akermanis told 4BC he was a “little” surprised with Fagan’s decision, but said the coach was likely doing what he thought was best for the club.

“He would want to do the right thing by the club and certainly wouldn’t want to be embroiled in that,” he said.
