Chris Waller has three runners in the Melbourne Cup, here’s who he thinks has the best shot
Trainer Chris Waller has three runners in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday and he’s weighed in on who he thinks has the best chance.
Who Shot Thebarman, Youngstar and Finche will all race tomorrow.
The super-trainer tells Chris Smith who he thinks has the best shot at the Cup.
“I’m a straight shooter,” he says. “I think Youngstar, being the Australian-bred horse of my three runners is the best chance.
“She’s got good credentials, she’s a young horse, meaning she’s still got a bit extra.”
Waller says the mare’s jockey will also help her chances.
“Craig Williams rides and rides the weight naturally.
“She’s in this race with a really lightweight.”
Waller’s confident Who Shot Thebarman is capable of making the top 10.

Waller also trains champion mare Winx and has weighed in on whether she could win the Cup.
“She could, but at what cost I don’t know,” he says.
“It’s basically like a Formula One car running at Bathurst. It’d probably win but the fall out of a long race might just break the engine or break her heart so we dare not do that.”
