Chris Waller: ‘We always prepare for defeat’
Tomorrow is a historic day in the world of horse racing, as Winx looks to equal the great Black Caviar’s record of 25 straight wins.
The champion mare is up against a stellar field in the $4-million Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick.
Trainer Chris Waller admits to Alan Jones he’s looking forward to the end of the carnival.
“It’s quite a testing time. You’re out of your comfort zoneĀ and there’s so many demands with media, which is a privilege, but we can’t do it forever. We do need a bit of a break at some stage.
“We always prepare for defeat. Like any sport, you never know when the top team can take a dive.”
As for the future, Waller admits he’s tempted to go for a fourth Cox Plate.
“It’s not too far down the track but she’ll only go there if she’s 100%.”
“She’s not far away from being a mum so that’s going to be an interesting and exciting part of her life.”
Will she then have a crack at the world’s richest race on turf, The Everest?
