Christian college responds to claims students were grilled on teacher’s living situation
A Gold Coast school has reportedly grilled students about whether they knew about a teacher’s living situation amid concerns her “lifestyle” went against its “moral standards”.
Livingstone Christian College launched an investigation after it was alleged by a parent that the teacher breached her contract by telling a class she was unmarried and lived with her partner.
It resulted in the interrogation of multiple students and the teacher, who denied the alleged incident ever happened, ultimately resigning.
While the principal, Stephen Wilson, says no student could recall such a discussion, Rob McKnight says his daughter, who was a student at the school at the time, was accused of lying during the investigation.
“She hasn’t done anything wrong, you’re now involving her in a staffing issue and when she’s not giving you the answer you want, you’re accusing her of lying,” he told Sofie Formica.

“The issue that is being overlooked is the inappropriateness of a teacher discussing the personal living arrangements with students.
“If the teacher shared her personal circumstances and living arrangements with students, and asked them to keep it a secret, she acted inappropriately and unwisely.
“Students were not asked if the teacher was unmarried and living with her boyfriend.
“Students were asked if the teacher had shared details with them about her personal living arrangements and whether in doing so, she had told students not to tell anyone what she had shared.
“If that was true, it would have been very concerning, but students who were asked did not confirm that the teacher had done so.
“The Education Minister, Grace Grace, is quoted by The Guardian as saying “I do not think it is appropriate for students to be brought into discussions regarding the personal or living arrangements of staff.” We agree.”
