Christian Porter to quit politics at the next election
Christian Porter has announced he will quit politics at the next federal election, ending months of speculation.
The former Attorney-General posted a lengthy statement on his Facebook page this afternoon.
“I feel that not a moment of the last 14 years was wasted and I am thankful for the opportunity and friendship provided by my Parliamentary colleagues and the men and women of the Liberal Part,” he said.
There are also reports Health Minister Greg Hunt will be standing down.
Speaking to 4BC Drive, Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said he couldn’t confirm the news but said it was an honour to serve with Mr Hunt.
“I haven’t seen any statement from Greg, he’s an exceptional Minister, he’s been a great colleague to me throughout my time in Parliament.”
On the news of Mr Porter’s resignation, he said he was aware of the statement.
He said it had been a traumatic year and he wished him well.
